Launch of New York Global Education Diplomatic Network for Embassy and Consulate Staff

The Institute of International Education (IIE) launched in November 2011 the “New York Global Education Diplomatic Network,” a regular gathering of New York-based educational and cultural attachés based at New York Consulates and UN Missions. The group meets on a quarterly basis at IIE’s United Nations Plaza headquarters, and provides consular officials with timely policy briefings on international education issues and an opportunity to learn about each country’s priorities relating to international education.

Meetings thus far have included: a briefing on the 2011 Open Doors data; a presentation and discussion about developing strategic partnerships with U.S. institutions; and an update from IIE’s Research and Evaluation team about a new report on U.S. Students in Overseas Degree Programs. The initial two meetings have included representatives from more than 25 consulates, UN Missions, and several DC-based Embassy officials. IIE invites Consulates and Embassies to designate either a DC- or New York-based official who works on educational issues to join the Global Education Diplomatic Network. For more information, please contact Morgan Clark, IIE Program Manager, at mclark@iie.org.
